Young and Mature Alike Enjoy the Enchanted Painted Lady’s Fairy Princess Tea Room
Imagine…A Fairy Princess Tea Room where colorful, lifelike fairies dance on the walls with butterflies so realistic that they appear to flutter. Large, three-dimensional hot pink flowers with bright yellow centers dot the whimsical tree branches that envelop the cozy dining area. Guests are seated at organdy covered garden tables and are served from pink rosebud teapots, plates and cups and saucers. The tea begins with a pot of hot “Starlight Strawberry” Tea and is followed with a three-tiered stand cleverly presented with an assortment of dainty tea sandwiches and teacakes sure to please the child in everyone.
The Painted Lady Tea Room, located at 327 E. Fifth Street, opened the upstairs “Fairy Princess” Tea Room, which seats up to fifteen guests, in December 2005. The very first guests to the new attraction were a lovely group of five young ladies from Toronto, Canada, who excitedly ran to the nine foot wardrobe to choose their costumes for the afternoon. They selected from a variety of tiaras, hats, mystical wands, gloves, purses, jewelry and feather boas in their favorite colors of pink and purple.
While attending the tea, the Painted Lady owner Joyce Whitaker explains the proper way to celebrate tea through her short “Tea and Etiquette” presentation. Guests are very curious and often ask many questions. Joyce said, “One day I was day dreaming and the idea came to me to do something creative to make better use of the upstairs of this beautiful old home. Fairies are my favorites and I noticed that our small fairy dolls sell very well, so I started planning. Beth Kidd and Anna Metz, very talented young artists, were available to bring my vision to life.”
One very excited “Fairy Princess” guest said it best, “Mommy, we’re in heaven.”

Princess theme and they were planning to create a new generation of “fairy
lovers” through their products and attractions. Joyce Whitaker said, “We
were excited to find out that we are on target with our marketing.”
